There is an increasing awareness that many of our older citizens daily face the challenge of mental health issues.
For some, that with dementia for instance, there has been a growing focus and awareness on their care and support. For many others that support has not always been highlighted and recognised.
There used to be an assumption that mental health problems were part and parcel of ageing but this is not the case.
There is a growing recognition on the part of providers of care and support both in care homes and in the community that there are particular needs which are often unaddressed facing our older population.
This section of the website has been developed to share best practice, increase awareness and raise the profile of issues relating to the mental health and care of older people. In particular we will focus on issues such as depression, isolation, alcohol and substance (sometimes medication) misuse as well as the issues facing individuals who care and support those with life long conditions.
